Superman Porites
Porites corals are small polyp stony (SPS) corals known for their branching and encrusting growth forms. They are commonly found in tropical waters and are popular in the aquarium trade due to their unique appearance and hardiness.
Care Requirements
Lighting and Water Flow
- Lighting Moderate to high, 250-400 par (start on the low end)
- Water Flow: Moderate to high
Water Conditions
- Temperature 75-80 degree farenheit
- Calcium 420-440 ppm
- Alkalinity 8-9.5 dKH
- Magnesium. 1260-1350 ppm
- pH 8.1-8.4
- Salinity 1.024-1.026
- Nitrates 5-10 ppm
- Phosphates <0.10 ppm
Feeding
Porites corals are photosynthetic but benefit from supplemental feedings. Recommended foods include:
- Amino Acids
- Powdered foods such as Benepets and Reef Roids
- Phytoplankton and Zooplankton
Regular target feeding a couple of times a week can enhance growth. It is recommended that you turn off water flow for 10-15 minutes during feeding for best results.
Growth and Placement
Porites corals should be placed in areas with direct light and strong water movement. Porites corals have slow to moderate growth rates, which can vary significantly among species and environmental conditions.
