Luminescence Anacropora
Anacropora corals are small polyp stony (SPS) corals belonging to the Acroporidae family. They are known for their delicate, thin branches and are often referred to as "briar corals." There are seven recognized species, with Anacropora forbesi being the most common in aquariums.
Care Requirements
Lighting and Water Flow
- Lighting: Prefers high light (PAR 300-450) to ensure proper growth and coloration. A color spectrum between 14,000 and 20,000 kelvin provides better coloration.
- Water Flow: Moderate to strong flow is best.
Water Conditions
- Temperature: 75-80°F
- Salinity: 1.025 - 1.026
- pH: 8.1 - 8.4
- Alkalinity: 8-9.5 dKH
- Calcium: 420-440 ppm
- Magnesium: 1260-1350 ppm
- Nitrates: <10 ppm
- Phosphates: <0.10 ppm
Feeding
Anacropora corals are photosynthetic but benefit from supplemental feedings. Recommended foods include:
- Amino Acids
- Powdered foods such as Benepets and Reef Roids
- Phytoplankton and Zooplankton
Growth and Placement
Anacropora corals should be mounted on exposed rocks or ledges where they can receive direct light and flow. They can grow into neighboring corals, so ensure adequate spacing for their expansion. With proper care, they can grow rapidly and thrive in a well-maintained aquarium environment.
