Stylocoeniella, commonly known as "thorn coral," is a type of small polyp stony (SPS) coral. It is known for its encrusting growth pattern and vibrant colors, making it a popular choice for reef aquariums. This coral is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for beginners.

• Lighting Low to Moderate, 50-100par
• Water Flow: Low to medium

Water Conditions

• Temperature 75-80 degree farenheit
• Calcium 400-450 ppm
• Alkalinity 8-9 dKH
• Magnesium. 1250-1350 ppm
• pH 8.1-8.4
• Salinity 1.024-1.026
• Nitrates 10-20 ppm
• Phosphates <0.10 ppm

Feeding

Stylocoeniella corals are photosynthetic but benefit from supplemental feedings. Recommended foods include:

• Amino Acids
• Powdered foods such as Benepets and Reef Roids
• Phytoplankton and Zooplankton

Regular target feeding a couple of times a week can enhance growth.  It is recommended that you turn off water flow for 10-15 minutes during feeding for best results.

Growth and Placement

Stylocoeniella have a moderate growth rate.  Because of their light and flow preferences, stylocoeniella should be placed in the lower sections of the tank.
