Care Requirements

Lighting and Water Flow

  • Lighting: Prefers low to moderate light (PAR 50-100). Lower ends of the range provide broader, extended growth, while the higher end of the range enhances color.
  • Water Flow: Moderate water flow is ideal for healthy growth.

Water Conditions

  • Temperature: 75-80°F
  • Salinity: 1.024 - 1.026
  • pH: 8.0 - 8.4
  • Alkalinity: 8-10 dKH
  • Calcium: 380-450 ppm
  • Magnesium: 1250-1350 ppm
  • Nitrates: 5-20 ppm
  • Phosphates: 0.05-0.10 ppm

Feeding

Leather corals are photosynthetic but benefit from supplemental feedings as they also absorb nutrients from the water. Recommended foods include:

  • Amino Acids
  • Powdered foods such as Benepets and Reef Roids
  • Phytoplankton and Zooplankton

Growth and Placement

Leather corals should placed in the lower sections of the aquarium to avoid intense light and allow for proper growth.  Some leather corals can release toxins that impact nearby corals, and therefore careful placement should be considered to keep them away from sensitive species.
