Watermelon Discoma Mushroom
Mushroom corals are easy to care for, making them ideal for beginners. They thrive in low to moderate lighting, prefer low water flow, and can absorb nutrients directly from the water, though occasional feeding can enhance their growth and color.
Care Requirements
Lighting and Water Flow
- Lighting Low to moderate, 50-150 par
- Water Flow: Low to moderate indirect flow
Water Conditions
- Temperature 76-80 degree farenheit
- Calcium 380-450 ppm
- Alkalinity 7-10 dKH
- Magnesium. 1250-1350 ppm
- pH 8.1-8.4
- Salinity 1.024-1.026
- Nitrates 5-20 ppm
- Phosphates 0.03-0.10 ppm
Feeding
Mushroom corals are photosynthetic but benefit from supplemental feedings. Recommended foods include:
- Amino Acids
- Powdered foods such as Benepets and Reef Roids
- Phytoplankton and Zooplankton
Regular target feeding a couple of times a week can enhance growth. It is recommended that you turn off water flow for 10-15 minutes during feeding for best results.
Growth and Placement
Mushroom coral have a moderate growth rate. They can quickly take over the reefscape and should be monitored.
